Fujifilm has been building this basic camera for a number of years.
Each year they add a few more features.
It has been a good camera and provides the necessary features for the beginner and advanced photographer.

The zoom does not affect the life and durability of the camera.

As with any long zoom lens, for best results you should use a camera support (tripod) when zooming over 10X.
It is near impossible to hand hold a camera steady at 24X.
It is not a fault of the lens or camera... it is the law of physics.

Thanks @ snapshot2 for prompt reply. I asked about durability about the wear-and-tear to the camera zooming mechanism by excessive use of zoomin-in ant out. Thanks for tripod suggestion.

Hi There
I brought the fugifilm finepix s80000fd which you can now get off eBay quite reasonable it has a 18 times optical zoom which is great and if you hold the button down longer it goes into picture zoom these are great because of the patent they have lets in the maximum light to the camera which produce good colour pics more lifelike I use my zoom loads in my job and I have had mine for nearly 2 years with no problems it also has an image stabilizer built in which you can switch off if u put it on a tripod the stabilizer will give you good pics for your still photos and the macro on it is good too I have had quite a few point and shoot cameras started with samsungs but this is my 3rd fugi I carry this with me all the time so prob gets used more than most peoples so I think you made a great choice best regards and happy shooting
