Hey all! I carry my pro dslr with me everywhere just so I have something to snap pics and I'm so tired of that. It's big and bulky and I want to reserve it for actual shoots.
I want something I can stick in my pocket and keep with me every day so if I want to just snap a casual pick of my buddies and I or something, I can do it on the fly.
Basically, the kind of pics I'd just snap here and there with my camera phone if I had one lol I don't so it's either I carry my huge dslr all the time or I never have pictures of anything.
Since it's just for everyday nonsense like snapping a pic of my toe for no reason, I don't need it to have ridiculously high quality specs or resolution. It just can't be so horrible that pics are always dark and blurred.
I don't care about features and lens and effects and all that. Just a basic little point and shoot that's got decent clarity and exposure on auto.
Beyond that, it just needs to be small, preferably have a regular mini usb out (not that stupid micro B), and have an adapter, not be solely battery powered.
It'd be nice if I can use SD cards too. Any suggestions?

You can start by looking at the Canon A800.
It is an entry level camera that takes good pictures and has all the basic functions.

I looked, that's one of the cameras I was already checking out and I'm hearing a lot about it being poor quality with the pictures and with the way it's actually built (way too many people talking about pieces falling off of it within the first month).
I'm looking more towards the pocket cameras in the $130 range. Do you know anything about the Sony Cybershot DSC-W530 and Panasonic DMC-FH25K?

Both cameras get good customer reviews.
The Sony can be found for less money than the Panasonic.
The big name reviewers seldom review digital cameras in this price range.
I could not find any large sample photos from either camera.
But, customers seem to be satisfied with the image quality.
The FH25 has a 16meg sensor which makes me want to see a sample photo.
Typically, 16meg sensors produce more noise and the camera makers are more aggressive with the noise removal firmware which results in loss of fine detail.
I find that people who own DSLR cameras are very critical when selecting a point-and-shoot camera.
They expect too much from a camera that cost so little.
These small cameras do very well on bright sunny days, but very few of them can take good pictures in low light.
DSLR owners seem to be satisfied with the Canon S95 or S100.
But those cost around $400.
