Digital cameras forum: Want to reanme images within a folder using PS Elements.

The window I'm using is exactly the same as your clip.

I'm confused because when I compare the original image size to the renamed image size using the "Image", "Resize Image" function in Elements Editor the size is the same.

When I right-click on the images in their respective folders and, then choose "properties", the original shows as 887KB and the renamed file as 178KB. The original folder containing 94 images is 102MB and the folder containg 94 renamed images is 19.9MB. I may be interpreting this incorrectly.

It appears the program may be reacting to the JPEG options when it writes the file to the new location.
So it is actually doing more than just changing the name of the file.

Try this:

Set the JPEG Options to 10:
------------------------------------------
Open a picture into PS Elements.
Save the picture to somewhere.
After you click Save the JPEG Options window will open.
I suspect that you have it set to a low value like 3 or 4.
Set it to 10 then complete the save.

Now try the rename options again and you should get a different result with larger files.
But it will not be exactly the same size as the original files, but should be larger than before.

If you want even larger files, set JPEG Options to 12.
And try again.

I think I do not understand or I'm misinterpreting the values that appear in Properites window where the renamed file contains fewer bytes than the original.

When I compare the images using the Resizing option in PSE Editor the image sizes are the same.

I am just about out of ideas.

There is one thing you have not stated yet:
What is the picture size of a typical image file?
Right out of a point & shoot 8 megapixel camera the picture size is usually about 3264 x 2448.
And with a file size of 3 to 4 meg (when using the best quality setting in the camera).
You said your average file size is 887 kb
That makes me think the photo files are not right out of a camera.

What is the picture size __ x __ ?

Where did the image files come from?
If they came from a camera, what camera, and what camera quality setting are you using.

Picture size ranges up to 2400X1600. Always enhanced using PS Elements adjusting dpi to 350 and JPEG to max.
Files come from a Canon Elph 300, 12.1 MP.
I still think I'm misinterpreting the numbers provided when I check the properties of an image file. The size attribute makes no sense to me. Thanks for your patience and perserverence.
I can't find an adequate explanation of "size" attribute. It's the difference in that number from original to renamed file that baffles me.

When you fill-in the Process Multiple Files form
you should also fill in the bottom section called "File Type"
Put a check mark in the square for "Convert Files to".
In the selection window choose "Jpeg High Quality"

After you execute the Process command.
You should find that the file size is just a bit smaller than the original.
e.g. if it original is 4M the processed copy should be about 3M

Now regarding the image sizes you are seeing on your original files.
You mentioned you are setting the dpi to 350.
You didn't say how you are doing this but I suspect you are using the "resize" command.
That is where things are going wrong.

DO NOT change the dpi setting.
