What is the best digital camera for Low light indoor setting

Hello,

I find myself going to a lot of low light indoor functions (weddings) lately and my waterproof point and shoot makes the photos look grainy and rough. It takes fantastic photos under water but even the manual setting can't muster a good indoor shot without a lot of focus. I won't set any price conditions now but can someone recommend a good digital camera for low light settings? I might be willing to go SLR and pay a bit more for it. Bonus if the auto mode takes great shots.

The best would be the Nikon D3S and a Nikkor AF-S 35mm f/1.4G lens. About $7,000.

Barring that, any entry level DSLR. $400-700.

As for an "inexpensive" all-in-one solution, the Olympus XZ-1, about $500.

FYI, no auto mode is foolproof, especially in more challenging lighting conditions. A camera is a tool, and as such, the more you know how to use the tool, the better the results will be.
