Camera is turned on but no picture shows up on the LCD.

he mode switch is working normal; it has 3 positions; two of which have normal operations. It's the 'camera mode' which allows the camera to 'monitor' what you will take a picture of...that is the function which is not operating properly...the camera is powered up but no picture shows up on the LCD. I will go to Canon as you suggest, and see what they say.

First, I suggest you reset the camera.
Look in Index at the back of your User Manual.
Look for "Reset All".
Do a reset and that will reset the camera back to factory settings.

If that did not correct the problem:

If you can not see (on the LCD) what you want to take a picture of, you should take the picture anyway.
Then look at the photo with your computer.
If the photo is solid black or solid white, the CCD sensor is likely dead.

Call Canon to find out the estimated cost.
