High-Speed SD cards

I've heard that some cameras won't use or take advantage of the high-speed SD cards. I want to speed up my Panasonic DMC FZ10 camera recovery when shooting actions-- sports and wildlife . Will these new cards help me improve the performance of this camera?

I'll write that I've yet to see this work in SD cards. SD cards were already pretty fast compared to MMC or older CF cards.

The write time is some milliseconds (10's of or less) so yes it could be faster, but image compression time seems to be far longer than the write time.

It's not likely.

Card speed will not help shutter lag.
Because 95% of the lag is due to auto-focus.

When using a large capacity high speed card, some cameras will start-up a little faster when you first turn them on.

Generally:
If you need high-speed cards the camera will come with one.
If high speed cards will improve something in the camera, it will be specified in the owners manual.
