Digital cameras forum: Format Memory Card?

Most cameras have the Format command in a menu.

Read your User Manual and it will tell you how to find and use the Format command.

When you buy a new memory card you should format the card with the camera before taking any photos.
If you have never formatted your memory card with the camera you should do so now.

Remember ... a Format will delete all photos off the card, so make sure you have copied them to your computer or burned them to a CD or both.

If you delete photos by using the delete command in the camera menu, you do not have to Format the card every time you delete a photo.
But ... if you use a card reader to delete photos from the card, you should Format the card with the camera.

Again ... a Format will delete all photos from the card.

Okay, I formatted the card. I assume that this only has to be done once, or do I have to format it again each time I delete pictures from the card as the wife of friend indicated?

Your phone is having option to format card..Go to menu and than setting you will find option to format card..
