can't connect camera to computer-doesn't recognize camera

I am using a Canon Powershot G5 for some time and almost a year ago the computer (Windows XP with all its updates) suddenly stopped recognizing the camera when I connect it with a USB cable. I have tried uninstalling canon's software and then reinstalling it, I then bought a USB hub and tried connecting it that way, I have tried other USB cables and all don't seem to work. The only way I can access my photos is to upload them onto another computer and then transfer the photos to a USB thumb drive and then connect that to the computer. Its a very annoying, round about way of getting my photos.

All other devices connected to USB drive work fine - just the Canon has stopped working. My mother has a different Canon camera and I can't access those photos either. I have no card reader connected to my camera.

Please help.

Clean up the Temporary and Internet Temporary files. One way of doing this is to go to the My Computer folder,right click the system disc [ C ?]and go fot properties. Click at Disk cleanup. connect you camera and switch it on. Ignore the warning or messages if it isnot reconized. Then go to Control Panel for "Scanners & Cameras", and delete your camera if it is found there. Now return to the desktop and shut down your computer. Reboot, and hope the camera is reconized.

hi,

Try to put the memory to the other camera then try to connect it in you PC... and if that one doesn't work maybe there is something wrong with the memory card..

Before buying another one try to put another memory card you have on the camera which computer does not recognizing..
