Digital cameras forum: megxon 8mp camera and info. info pls

When posting a large photo, also post a smaller version (i.e. 800x600).

So that people with dial-up ISP service do not have to wait so long for the download.

I followed this forum carefully before deciding to purchase the megxon c-580. I was confused by the opposing comments made by the forum members. Finally I decided to in favor of it. the main reason for this was the following gallery :

Please have a look at it. I am new to photography. To me the pictures looked brilliant.

I might be wrong. So please explain a bit why this product is "dishonest". I was fully aware that the camera is a 5MP not 10MP.

Look above and you will find a supposed rep of the company claiming that it is a cmos. Now are you one of the evil distributors I was talking about with the inflated pixil claims?

Of those things do you have to dump on the unsuspecting. Interpolation=theif

Hi. I just went on a five month holiday with my new megxon s1. All my photos appear in xp in a raw format, and I cannot view them. Have tried numerous file conversion programs, and am somewhat fustrated. Does anyone have any suggestions?
I susupect these are the repocussions of buying cheap, no-name brands.

Interpolation is just resizing a photo.

If you take a five megapixel photo and then use software to increase the size of the photo to 8 megapixels, that is interpolation.
Any photo manipulation software can do this.

The result of interpolation is a large degraded photo.
It is a worthless feature for a camera.
It's sales hype to catch your eye and will fool many people into thinking the camera has more megapixels than it has.

Look at the specifications for the camera and see what size CCD sensor it has. It will probably be 3 or 5 megapixels. That is what you want to use for setting the camera.

Saying that it has a Panasonic CCD sensor is just sales hype. They are just throwing in a familiar name to catch your eye.

There are better sensors than a Panasonic sensor.

I would avoid any company that uses sales hype and misleading advertising.

There are several very good low cost "name brand" cameras on the market.
Canon A410 (3meg - 3X optical zoom) can be found for $107 (including shipping).
Canon A440 (4meg - 4X optical zoom) can be found for $149 (including shipping).
Kodak has C310, C330 and C533 that range in price from $110 to $180.
Sony has the S600 with 6meg - 3X optical zoom) that sells for under $200.

The Megxon caught my eye on ebay 4/5 mp is all I really need but what I want is at least a 6x optical zoom. 3x may be just fine indoors but it's very inadequate for sporting events, vacation photos, general outdoor stuff. Any suggestions in the under ~200 area, I'd even consider used or refurbed. I'm eyeballing a fujifilm finepix s602 on ebay at the moment.

I'm new to this sort of site. I came across it looking for info on a mexgon camera. I bought a Mexgon camera last year it seemed good and was easy to use until I had it out in bright sunlight. Then the pictures were totaly over exposed. My wife was taking picures in the same conditions with a 10 year old Kodak and her results were fine. This year I decided to by a polorised filter and ran into a probem. The Mexgon has a 50mm lenze every body else uses 49mm so I had try and make a 49mm lenze adaper fit a 50mm lenze.OK so I did manage it but the guy in the shop was a good salesman and as was going to the Grand Cayon also sold me a wide angled lenze, but the adaper cuts the corners of the picures and the only way round this is is to zoom in a bit, but if you do that then there is no point in using a wide angle lenze. If I had it to do again I would not buy the Mexgon and for that matter would stay clear of ebay as I have never really been satisfied with anything have I bought there. Anyone know where I can get a lenze adaper for this camera. john.hamilton5@ntlworld.com
