Digital cameras forum: best digital camera for Mac?

I'm pretty sure all cameras are compatible with Macintosh.

look at the SD780, SD940, SD960, SD970 and SD980

I am not familiar with a shoechoir concert, but if the lighting conditions are similar to a rock music concert, you will be disappointed in just about any small camera.

Since small cameras have a small CCD sensor assembly they have poor performance in low light.

The Canon S90 and G11 or Fujifilm F200 do better in low light than the rest, but are nowhere near as good as a DSLR camera.
The small camera videos come out better than the still photos because the motion blurring is easier to tolerate in video.

That Concert is using typical stage lighting and should not be a problem, particularly since the kids can sit in the first row.

For HD video, the Panasonic ZS3 has been popular.
The Panasonic ZR1 is a physically smaller version of the same camera.

I have not seen a review yet, but that link you provided was pretty comprehensive for a pre-view.

That is a camera I would like to have just to play with it.
I would not buy the Tx-1 for someone that was not tech savvy.
It has lots of great features but they require manual intervention to activate them. Not a good camera to give your grandmother.

A tech savvy teenager would love the camera.

The article states that the new CMOS sensor has a 200% sensitivity increase. That is not as great as it sounds, but it is progress.
It would relate to a 2 f/stop improvement, which should help low light shooting.

I really want to see a lens test on the Tx-1.
Those folded lenses tend to have some degree of vignetting with soft corners in the photos.
One brief example in the article shows a good bit of softening in the lower right corner. That would indicate that the lens is not centered over the sensor. There should be a bit of softening in all 4 corners if the lens is centered over the CMOS sensor.
Manufacturing usually has problems with assembling those folded lenses.

For a teenager, I would say get the camera.
But I would buy from some place that would take it back if there is a problem. I suggest you test the lens, first thing, to see if the lens is centered over the CMOS sensor.

Take a picture of something that has objects in all four corners and look at the picture at full size to check the corners. Some softening in all corners is normal for a folder lens.

daughter i thought would be happy with tx1 would rather have apink camera so I bought her the sd1200is in pink/red, oh well, but youngest daughter didn't like the zs3 because it looked like her tz3 and I understand that and still trying to decide between all the great cameras out there, there is always 1 or 2 bad reviews which I believe, basically wants small, fast, some zoom,picture quality and i want her to have hd so there really is nothing to considor, at one time i was buying in no order tx1, wx1, wd290, h-20, sd940is,sd960is, sd970is,sd990is,sd980is, sx200is, sx20is,panasonic a few, fuji a few, is there a right answer

My notes show the following shutter lag figures:

Sony T90 - 0.1 second
Canon SD940 - 0.2 second
Canon SD960 - 0.2 second
Canon SD980 - 0.5 second (this slow shutter lag may be related to the touch screen LCD. The SD980 is the first Canon camera to have a touch screen).

so I kind of decided on the t-90 when I happened to see a review on someone who said they got the sony tx1 to replace there t-90 that died and they thought the tx1 was better, so now how does a camera that comes out 4-09 die and which is better, you know I researched the tx1 before, any expert opinion!

busy at work today did not see the thread till now, I understand but I'm always trying to get the right present, I believe I'm Santa and he never made a mistake, so where do I go, size really #1 if want small, then picture quality then fast then zoome then features, I've always loved sony's canon's, panasonic, if it's cheap it's ok, my daughter may never be able to take great picture anyway because during show choir season thats important and not reading how to take pictures but when all is said and done you would like to have the right camera for the right person (here is what she asked for, small + zoom, I added picture quality, features, hd) any opinion? thanks Sapshot, happy holidays

So far I've been able to use a generic few buck card reader for machines that have no card slot.

It always works for me and those at the office.
