Digital cameras forum: Canon Powershot SD1100 IS or Kodak Easyshare M1093 IS?

I'm looking for a little buying advice between two extremely inexpensive ultracompacts, the Canon Powershot SD1100 IS (which I am able to obtain on clearance at a nearby store for $89) and the Kodak Easyshare M1093 I, which is widely available on eBay for around $100.

When it comes to cameras I'm only a sliver more savvy than your average amateur, but I'm basically looking for an extremely portable device that I can use in a pinch both for casual social photos and for developing my rather atrophied photographic skills (I'll likely be taking a lot of simple landscaping shots, portraits, basic scenery, and perhaps a few casual modeling pics of some of my more photogenic friends). I will need it primarily for outdoor use, but I'd also like to be able to take some quality indoor photos during events like dances, weddings, campus activities, etc., so whichever camera can shoot more reliably in the 500+ ISO range would have an edge for me.

Based on the reviews I've read, both cameras seem quite appropriate for my needs (particularly my budgetary needs!), but I'm at something of an impasse in that the one-year release expanse between the two models makes comparison shopping seem rather tricky. In general, the reviews of the Powershot seem more positive than those of the Easyshare, but I'm hesitant to take that as a reliable indicator given the Powershot's age over the Easyshare. In other words, I worry that standards have risen enough to render an only entry-level camera of today, i.e. the Easyshare, more than a match for the higher mid-range camera of yesteryear, i.e. the Powershot. Are the highly-advertised high definition capabilities of the Easyshare a significant enough advantage to overshadow a unit without them? Also, I strongly prefer to have the option of setting shots with an optical viewfinder (given what a pain in the ass digital viewfinders can be to view in sunny conditions), which the Powershot has, but reviewers seem unanimous in their appraisal of that particular viewfinder as next-to-useless due to its "minuscule" size. Have users of the Powershot found this to be true?

Any advice will be much appreciated, as will other suggestions if anyone knows of alternative cameras of this caliber in the same price range.
