My Canon System

After much searching and comparing I decided on the Canon DSLR system.

MY SYSTEM (for now)
50D
16-35mm f2.8L USM
24-105mm f4L IS USM
70-200mm f4L IS USM

Flash 480 EX II
Flash 550 EX

Why?
1. A HUGE line up of lenses, particularly zooms, compatible with the latest bodies.
2. A desire for the best glass available for 35mm format (FF) even though the body may be smaller (APS-C), I want the room to grow into the larger size imagers when they come down in price. Used high quality glass was a consideration.
3. Super features set in the 50D over and above more expensive cameras from Nikon, and Sony. I looked at all the impressive cameras currently on the market or just about to come to market and Canon 50D wins, at least for me.

if the budget is not a problem, why don't you wait for 5D mark II ? The L-zoom lenses you selected will better suit for the full frame DSLR. Currently, the wide will not be that wide, but normal zoom for 50D. Nevertheless, lense vigneting will be the next thing you need to beat that on the full frame.

is very good with the SLR film camera. But, for DSLR, lots of flare and ghosting. Go for 16-35F2.8L II instead for the better lense coating.

another oooops..

480 EX II, I think that flash must be 430 EX II. For the price difference, 580 EX II is the better alternative, despite the better guide number - longer flash shooting distance.

Meanwhile, 550 EX will not serve you well. 50D is the 14-bit system in additon to the camera control flash shooting ( the current system is now ETTL II ) . 550 EX is equipped for ETTL and 12-bit system. Therefore, flash may not respond properly with the 50D's control features. Speedlite 550 EX will work well with the older model, such as 10-30D.

Glad someone has the money during this time. That's a little bit of change to buy all that. A very good line-up, but extremely expensive. The one thing you failed to mention is your tripod. You need to have a good tripod to round out your equipment. Also, a good polarizer helps.
