The file named MVI_2055.THM is not a data file.
It is a thumbnail image of the first frame of the video file.
It is actually a .jpg image that is 160 x 120 pixels.

It is only used by the camera, to show a representative of the video when you are looking through your images on the camera LCD.

To reload the photos back to the memory card, you would have to use a card reader/writer, because Canon does not permit you to write to one of their Cameras directly on the USB cable.

If you did what you suggested and wrote back the files to the memory card as you specified, the camera will not see them or display them.

The camera is only looking for video files with the name MVI_2055.
Meaning .... it wants to see the letters MVI_ followed by a four digit number.

To do what you want, you need a media player.
The Canon A540 does not function as a medial player.

Well hi there Snapshot2, Thanks for the reply and information.
I have to GY Golly, I changed the file extension to .jpg and there
she is a neat little 160x120 Thumbnail, Thanks That's a quick little
way to get one, (although just a thumbnail) from the video since this
particular camera does not have a function to take a picture from the video built-in. I would have to use software.
I didn't want to rename them and put them on a card and back in the
camera persay, It was just something that occured to me.
I really was wondering about things like, if that file had anything to do with displaying the video information like the settings used,
date, Video size, ISO, modes etc etc or anything like that, whether while in camera or
some place like webshots where it shows the video information,
like they show picture information just like the EXIF data.

I guess they make it a .THM Extension so you don't have a bunch of
thumbnail .jpgs to confuse you and get mixed in with the regular
pictures, or that is just the way the camera has been programmed to read for the thumbnail.

And so, I guess essentially when copied to a computer no matter what you are going to do with it, at this time there is no need for the .THM to be copied too, because software and websites don't use them for anything.
