Digital cameras forum: I bought a HP photosmart m357

The reviewers never tell us how they select which cameras get a review.

But there are several brands you seldom see reviewed:

HP, Pentax, Samsung

When you look at their overall presence in the camera world, they are considered the smaller players.

High priced cameras are more likely to get a review.
Most of HP cameras are priced under $225.

Consumer Reports rates HP and Pentax cameras as more likely to need repair. But not at a significant rate.

The HP cameras usually have a sharp lens and lots of features.
Their past reviews have been generally good.
Their sales have not been outstanding.

Samsung shot themselves in the foot several years ago.
They managed to get several cameras reviewed and they all got bad reviews.
They almost abandoned the American camera market, but are returning now with better cameras.

Pentax has been in the camera business for many many years.
Their film cameras were usually aimed at the lower cost area.
They were late to get into the digital cameras.
Their DSLR cameras are getting lots of reviews and praise.
They are in the process of being bought out by Hoya.
Hoya is most noted for their photographic filters.
Hoya is insisting that the present Pentax board of directors and president resign.
We can only wait and see what the future Pentax company will look like.
