Going to Japan, want to buy a digital camera, need advice

I am traveling to southeast Asia for a few weeks, but will be in Japan for a layover on the way there and back (I live in California). The layover on the way there will be for 6 hours and the way back for 36 hours so it makes more sense to buy the camera on the way back (more time to shop around), however I'd like to get the camera on the way there to use during my trip. So, what I am looking for is advice, I want to buy a digital camera that I would not be able to find in the US. The main features that I am looking for are size (I want something small to fit in my pocket), durability (I am hard on my gadgets), and megapixels(>6). So if anyone has any insight into this I would greatly appreciate any help you can provide.
Also, I am a gadget freak in general, so if there are any other gadgets that I couldn't get in the US but are worth owning, let me know (mp3playeres, cell phones, camcorders, etc.)
