SD memory card help.

I have just now inserted a new Transend 256mb sd memory card into a Vivitar 3345 camera. The camera does not react at all. It does not see the card. The camera has 8mb of built-in memory and that's all that it sees.
I have tested the card in another camera and it works.
Does anyone have any tips to try to get this camera to see the card?
Any advice is appreciated.

When the card is inserted, that camera is supposed to see the card immediately and not see the internal memory.

Make sure that the card is inserted properly:
You insert the end with gold contact pads first and the gold contact pads should be toward the back side of the camera.

To determine if the problem is the card or the camera, you will need to try a different card, that is made by a different manufacturer.

Some inexpensive cameras will not work with all brands of cards.

Thanks Joe: That was my guess also, but thought I'd confirm my suspicions here. Vivitar gives no guidance
as to what card to purchase, just that it will accept an
SD card up to 256mb.
Since the card is new and will work in another camera, that leaves the camera itself as the cause of the problem.
Since Vivitar doesn't make flash cards, seems the least they could do to recommend a card that is tested to work in their equipment.

I know sometimes the camera will not react properly if the card was not formatted by the camera. Can you try formatting the card in the camera and if you cant try resetting the camera to factory default and sometimes that can cure your problem and also it may sound stupid but make sure your battery is fully charged.

I don't have an option to format the card in the camera. The camera doesn't know that the card exists.
I'm in the process of resetting the camera now. I will know more later this afternoon.
Does anyone know what sd memory card is compatible with Vivitar. The only option that I have found is US Modular. They guarantee 100% compatible.

Really by all standards all SD cards should be able to work in your camera. The memory cards should be able to go from one camera to another very few incidents I heard of the camera will only accept one kind of memory brand. I know like in my camera the FZ-30 you need a very fast writing card and all I use are the Lexar 2GB 133X pro's which write at appox 20MB per second. If nothing helps what you are doing have you tried Vivitar support. Probably as a last resort you might have to contact them. It might be that the camera can also be on it's way out also.

The camera is new, as well as the card. I have contacted Vivitar support. Their answer was almost comical. They referred me to the manual for instructions for formatting the card. The person certainly hasn't read the manual himself. If he had, he would know that the manual says absolutely nothing about formatting the card. Only basic instructions on how to insert and remove the card.
I tried resetting the camera by leaving it unpowered (batteries removed) for 24 hours, but it had no effect.
I've responded to their support, but still waiting for their answer. I'll post back if I can solve this mystery.

They responded with, just send it to us with all your documentation and a check for shipping and handling.
I replied, no thanks, the camera's not worth the price of shipping.
It's not my camera, but I thought Vivitar could come up with a better solution than that. I'm sure that they are aware that not all cards are compatible with their equipment, and they should publish some list of tested compatible cards, so the consumer doesn't have to do all their testing for them.
It's just an inexpensive pocket camera and does quite well with it's 8mb of built-in memory. The owner may have to be satisfied with that.

It costs under $100 and takes good photos.
