Digital cameras forum: Sony Picture package Will Not install on PC

It's not something I own, but I have had some luck disabling DEP in XP. Look up XP DISABLE DEP on google.com

There can be many other reasons such as spyware damage, firewalls and more that are "in the way." Another poster found Roxio interfered with Kodak software installs. Finding the toxic combo is always fun.

I recently bought a DVD403 Handycam which come with Picture Package 1.8. Installer falls over right after you hit the final ''Install''button (after its gathered all the parameters''. Called the support line. They took me through a bunch of simple diagnostics (disk space, processor speed, whatever). Then they told me that this was a reported and repeatable problem with installing on XP Pro and that ''the problem has been pushed back to Japan for resolution''. Also took my email address and promised to contact me with the fix when it was available. No timings were forthcoming on this when I asked. Probably worth you doing the same thing. I agree - I should also have added that I have a pretty clean Dell laptop (only a few months old) running XP Pro SP2 and it installed with no problem. However, I think I'll wait for a solution from pixela rather than rebuilding my desktop...

After 1 1/2 years you would think that the idiots at Sony would have the story straight about picture package! I just bought handycam 405. I can see video and sometimes,rarely I get audio. I have downloaded this to my computer, this is not on my camcorder. The cam ran fine for 3 months then died. Its under warranty and for only $129 I can have it repaired for FREE. Getting back to PP I spoke to an idiot on the chat line and oh my. Picture Package is the worst program in the world and the so called analyst kept insisting that I reinstall it. I have done that 25 times. His final words to me was
"Sulin has left the room" He didn't even have the guts to tell me he couldn't help me.

think it's about time that software vendors improve their products and realize that fire walls, and other security software are a fact of life that they have to work with.

I think it is arrogant for a publisher to expect that a computer's defenses will be removed just so his/her product can install. It's the old 'This PC is now owned by my software.' syndrome. It speaks to a lack of professionalism on the part of the developer.

sufficiently test his/her installation routine. ZA can't test for every conceivable piece of software. If lot's of stuff had a problem with them, then it would be their fault. However, the only piece of software I have that has trouble with ZA is an old DSL install routine. They insist that ZA be removed before they install. Now, the product comes with ZA included as a benefit.

ZA is a big enough part of the market that installers need to be sure they can work with it. It's no longer adequate to insist that shields be lowered just to install your small bit of software. You're more than likely to get the boot off my machine if you want ZA deactivated or removed while you install. You will get the boot if you can't work even after installation.

I Was just searching the net to see if I could find any help on installing Sony Picture Package.

I have just purchased a Sony DCR-DVD403E and am having exactly the same installation problem as you described.

I have succesfully installed the program on my old desktop with no problem but can not get it to install on my laptop.

I have tried disabling my firewall/antivirus programs but still no luck.

Please post if you solve the problem and I will do the same.

I`m not convinced that the firewall I am using is causing the problem.

I have installed the program on my house desktop successfully. It is protected by Norton Internet Security and Antivirus 2004 which caused no problem at all.

It just refuses to install on my dell laptop though. It is protected by Norton Internet Security/Antivirus 2005.

I`m convinced it must be something else.

I have also tried disabling DEP in XP as was suggested before. Still no luck.

Any other suggestions???

I`m going to uninstall Norton completely to see if I can get Picture Package to install. Then I`ll know for sure.

Yup - wait to see what Pixela come back with. They've revealed they think it's to do with XP Pro and are looking at it.

I had the same problem, it will not install on my PC. It gets to creating the sub directory and disappears.

I followed all the steps in this thred and could not get the software to load. I then went on my XP Home laptop and it worked fine.

Being a I.T. guy, im suggesting there are certain things in the SP2 update for windows that may not allow the software to run. But again like alot of you others mentiond that certain software that is installed could cause this reaction. I certainly don't have the same things installed on my laptopthat I do on my desktop.

Aren't the sony analyst's wonderful????????? I wish I could send you the print out on the jerk who helped me. His final thought to me when he could help me no longer was "Sulin has left the building." My thought to you is don't install Picture Picture get another program before it is too late. I have had nothing but problems and there is a thread if you go to Picture package line 8 and a guy spoke with an analyst 1 1/2 years ago who said the program is bad and Japan was working on it then. go figure.
