Ejecting a DVD should be a fully-hardware thing. It needs power, but it doesn't need a working OS. How else to mount a DVD to install an OS?

So if it doesn't work, it needs a tech to repair it (which might mean: take out and replace by a new one). You might feel qualified to do it yourself, or you find a repair shop.

Leaving the machine for a couple of days, using it as normal, and not making any attempt at the DVD removal, has occasionally worked for me.

After a couple of days I went back to it, shut it down, removed the power core for a couple of minutes, restarted holding down the left mouse button and, just like magic, it popped out.

I know it does not really make sense but then again, I don't have a DVD stuck in the slot anymore either.
