Well, Mac-sters...We need to know if we're at the destination of having to submit to Technology and purchase a more advanced system. We purchased our iMac PPC G4 (1.25 GHz w/ 256MB) back in 2006/07 and are now in a quandry of do we or don't we - purchase a new system for home use to use w/ phones, run the latest gadgets, & Apps??? What say you that may be in the dark ages like us or those that have bowed to the "machine" for a happier life..lol??

nothing is being written for the PPC processor and after 6 years you have got your money's worth out of the G4.

While it will still function reasonably well, the newer iPhone/iPod/iPad require a newer edition of iTunes which will not run on the G4.

Pick a screen size and go from there.

As for breaking the bank, that is relative.

I will say that a new iMac could cost less than the price you paid for the G4 iMac. (assuming you purchased it new)

Don't forget about the Mac Mini. You will definitely save a few bucks vs getting another iMac since it's half the price of an iMac, and you can pick-up any old monitor for cheap. Ka-Ching!

Any new Mac will run rings around the machine you have now! I love my iMac, although a Mac Mini will do a great job for less money. You may end up wanting to add an external DVD drive to the Mini, along with the requisite keyboard, mouse and monitor, so you will want to do a complete price comparison. If you can, go to an Apple Store or the Apple section of a Best Buy and try out a couple of machines. Be careful, though, one of those new Macs may follow you home!

Consider a MacBook Pro with a SSD

I've had a PPC G4 17" from Jan2005 thru Jun2011 as my main machine. Although I still have it, I've given that role to a 17" MacBook Pro, w/ 8GB RAM. It screams.

Do consider a Solid State Disk; mine is 120GB only, as I didn't want to buy truckloads of TB's of external storage for backup and cloning, etc. The point is, SSD's are much faster and more reliable than traditional drives, although I clone and backup daily.
