Hi all,

It's been a while since i posted here. First of all thanks for reading this. I need some help with some questions I have regarding my new mini- itx build. Here are the parts:

Case: Bitfenix prodigy
CPU: Intel i5 3570k
Motherboard: Asus P8Z77-i Deluxe Mini-itx
HDD: Western Digital Caviar Black WD5003AZEX, 500GB
RAM:Corsair CMV8GX3M1A1333C9 - 8GB
PSU: Seasonic M12II 620W
OS: Windows 7 64 home premium

As you have noticed, I got no SSD, no separate cooler.

The PC will be used for a very long time, my current PC was built in 2006, and it is a fine built, but is showing sings of age.

So, this mini PC will be used to internet browsing, video watching, sometimes maybe converting audio files, downloading movies. No gaming or overclocking in near future. But it will be a sort of long hours work horse.

I know, you may think the motherboard is an overkill together with the CPU for those puny tasks, but this machine is a build that is planned to serve me from 4 to 8 years, I tend to stay with a machine for a very long time and during its life cycle would like it to be upgradeable and more or less current.

Now, the questions I have are:

1) Do I need to get a separate cooler for the CPU seeing as nobody generally uses stock coolers provided?
2) Should i consider getting an SSD and if yes, how complex is it to make it work together with a conventional HD I chose? Let's say i put my OS and some other most used files on it, the rest goes to HD, since i don't have much anyways. Im kind of a noob and need a lot of self tutoring before I start with the build.

Over the years I've come to ignore, refuse to work on micro-case PCs. They are usually bad news as by the time you get to them the parts inside are cooked. This apparently is some micro-ITX case so I would never do that with anything that draws more than 100 Watts total. And even then.

Thanks Bob,

im on a budget, this mini-itx is costing €700 which is around $850-900. It has everything I want and need basically and I also tend to move around a lot and need smth more portable. Laptops irritate me with their generally weak look, small life span and limited upgradeability. I don't know about wether its gonna be cooked, but according to my research of similar builds with much bigger PSUs and much stronger CPUs, they don't seem to have any problems with parts cooking. Just pick the right cooling, CPU is generally the coolpit, and u r good to go. Plus I don't overclock, so I doubt for my use the CPU will be heating up too much

600+ Watt power supply.

While I like over sized supplies the mini case is still a good source or repair revenue (or sales) so I can't think highly unless it's some sub 100 Watt system. You want long life but went with the very small case.

Dismissing that, I don't see why you shouldn't go with it.
