XP floppy works only in safe mode

Originally on my Dell GX280 the onboard floppy worked OK as did an external USB floppy. At some point both stopped working - put in a disk - click on the floppy icon - nothing.

However I've found that in safe mode both the internal drive and the USB drive work well.

I do have a number of floppies with info so while it is not urgent I'd like to be able to use them in 'normal' mode.

Anybody suggest a solution?

Try removing all floppy drives in safe mode in the device manager and let it re-detect.
