Monitor buying guide

Hello folks,

I used to do research by my own but this time I am confused with many terminologies like aspect ratio, pixel resolutions blah blah.... Hope that you will help me out.
Giving you my exact requirement.

Should be moderate Expensive (10k INR (~220 USD))

Should play HD videos

Should have HDMI input

Should have inbuilt speakers / it's ok if it hasn't

It will be used as TV as well monitor so is there any monitor available in the market who has inbuilt TV tuner facility. it's ok if it hasn't. I can use it externally.

Should be durable

Watching video will be one of the main usage of this monitor

Dumb questions...

Can I watch TV without running the whole system (CPU)?

How is the quality of video? Same as I am watching on regular TV?

Which monitor size suits more to my needs?
According to you which brand/model should I choose? I am in India FYR...

It's an old model that is not in stores anymore but you see things like it. I wrote about it so you have a starting point to see what's out there in your country.

It sounds like what you need is a TV with WiFi

If you just buy a monitor, it will have to be connected to a PC unless you can find something highly out of the ordinary, so it sounds like what you need is a TV with WiFi input. You want one with 1080P and 120 Hz. If you find a nice TV without WiFi, you can always add a blueray player that has it. FWIW I'm in the US and not familiar with what's available in India.

Actually I own samsung syncmaster CRT that occupy much space and looks odd on my desk. usually I don't work much on my desktop and I want to make my workplace bit interesting by purchasing multimedia monitor that can run TV as well produce great picture.
