Is DVD writer fixable?

I have an LG GSA-H55N internal DVD writer that I seem to have broken. The trouble originated when I was trying to burn an ISO disc and for some reason I ejected it in mid-writing (details hazy as this was over a year ago & I'm only now getting round to this. I have a 2nd drive that works).
The drive is available - the computer sees it (F:\ as designated) and Device Manager says that the device is working properly (so computers aren't so smart are they?) and the driver doesn't need updating. It has power, I can open it and close it and the light comes on briefly when I do that. When I insert any disc (CD or DVD any type) it fails to spin up and there is no light to indicate activity. I can't hear it or feel it spinning either.
Is it repairable or shall I bin it?
PC is a self-built running W7 32bit. It would take a while to look-up and type out all the spec so please ask if you think I should list something specific. Thank you & Happy New Year.

But parts exceed replacement units and parts are rare to find. The most determined folk will find same model drives and swap parts and make a working one but given the cost of a new drive is less than the labor to fix one you don't see anyone fixing these.

I agree, costs and effort may not pay back once you get into this. Typically, for less than $30, you can replace it and be done with it.

There's nothing that says you can't tear it down to try to fix it though. I would loo at any sensor to make the presence of disc mounted is working. Just so you know even various offer the same capabilities the electronics vary too much, so you can't swap unless you ID what it does and even that can be problematic. But, play and repair all you like, experience and possible fix is always helpful.

Thanks chaps.
I was expecting either the "this is a common problem, just do this...." answer, or the "nope, you knackered it good & proper" answer so thanks for the tinkering suggestions but I'll have to go with the throw-away society's solution and head for a well known online retailer's site!
