Advice on upgrading.

Bit of a random question but I experience lag when playing newer games like skyrim and farcry3. I have a radeon 6870 1gb ddr5 also an additional 8 GB onboard ram that is only ddr2 not sure the the speed. I was wondering if spending the money on a motherboard capable of supporting ddr3 ram + the ram itself (roughly 150$) or would getting a better graphics card be the way to go?? Would switching from ddr2 to ddr3 have a big impact? Keeping in mind low costs. Would appreciate all advice

Mobo...make and model.
Ram....speed.

Looks like farcry wants some serious cpu muscle.

Specs for my pc

CPU- Intel core 2 Quad q6600 2.4Ghz
Motherboard- Gigabyte ultra durable 3 GA-EP43-UD3L
Ram- 8GB DDR2 i think the speed is 800mhz but thats only a guess i cant download any programs to find out atm.
HDD- 2 150GB velociraptor 10000rpm
Graphics- Saphire Radeon HD 6870 1GB DDR5

Also I have 200$ to upgrade, what would give me the best performance for my money?

Your cpu does not have the horse power to play those sorts of games.
Your mobo does not support a cpu upgrade that would make much difference.

Bottom line.
Your looking at 400+ bucks.
Mobo....cpu...ram.

Your call.

damn... thanks for the heads up. is there a motherboard plus cpu you could recommend. not worrying about price anymore.

Cpu......I'd be looking at a I5-3570/3570k.

Ram....8GB @ 1600.

Mobo....Doubt it much matters.....something that supports lga 1155.
Do some shopping.....check the features.....read the reviews.

This will keep you busy for a while.

Skyrim can do that even on the latest hardware. Almost no motherboard allows you to change DDR 2 to 3 so it's quick expensive to change all that.
