PC hardware forum: New processor and motherboard?

New processor and motherboard?

I am replacing my old processor and motherboard. My computer is used heavily for photoshop/digital painting, but also a lot of gaming. here are the options I am considering:
Intel Core i7-3770K Ivy Bridge 3.5GHz (3.9GHz Turbo) LGA 1155 77W Quad-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 4000 BX80637I73770K
+ASUS SABERTOOTH Z77 LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
or
Intel Core i5-3570K Ivy Bridge 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo) LGA 1155 77W Quad-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 4000 BX80637I53570K
+ASUS P8Z77-V LK LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard with UEFI BIOS
The first package is priced at $510 dollars on newegg.com, and the second option is $335 dollars on newegg.com. Which option would be better for gaming and photoshop. is the i7 3770k option really worth the extra 170 dollars? thanks any help or advice would be great.

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-cpu-review-overclock,3106-4.html says it doesn't make much difference for gaming, so I doubt if it's worth the money.

4000 integrated graphics/photoshop

I'm running an amd radeon hd 6800 series graphics card which cancels out the on board graphics, but I'm planning an upgrade to that to.
On another note does anyone know if photoshop would be better on the i7? I've heard that photoshop runs better with the more cores and hyperthreading of the i7... is it worth it in that regard?

Bang for the buck

I'd go with the I5.
Yes...there are some features of PS that will be better with the I7.
170 bucks better?.......hmmm....your call.

Take those bucks and put them in a kitty.
Get friendly with task manager and perf monitor.
It shouldn't take very long to figure out what area needs a little help.
Ram/gpu/storage(ssd)?
