Printer Shows Offline

My HP officejet 4500 has worked perfectly untill all of sudden it's status shows "offline" and is not recognized by my Vista home premium.I checked in "device manager" and the USB for the printer shows "device working properly".However when I try to print a page it just goes into queue and sits there.I have unplugged the printer power and connection to pc and rebooted but remains in "offline" status.What do I need to check?

I have other options but for most your safe bet is to uninstall the printer and it's software then install as if it's a new install.

As pgc3 noted, it's not always the cure but it's very high on the list of fixing it the first time. The rest of the time I find issues with cables, printers and then the PC. I know some want a more precise fix but this works too often and it's cheap.

Printer/All in ones

Good call Bob, those types of issues,from my experience usually and especially with All In Ones can be cured by a reload of the software. Not to say that is 100% of the time but usually, sage advice Mr. Proffitt!
