Motherboard compatability

hi i currently have a dell vostro 400 and the current motherboard cpu socket is lga775, but im looking to replace with a lga 1155 socket so i can use the intel i5 processors, but i have no idea on what motherboards are compatable. Clarification request: Do you mean replace the MB and processor in the Dell?

If so, I'd not do that. You'd need a new PS, RAM, etc. This is where you replace the whole PC and not try to upgrade and older one.

ive already replaced the PS RAM to a better one 600w and 4gb

Think DIY approach

Screw the Dell case and all its innards. You need to get yourself a new case and thus allow yourself the "generic" DIY build. You can re-use the drives and what have you but trying to keep the case is a lost cause. You're not restricted to space and cooling options. Once you 're outgrown the i5 later you can rebuild or swap out more easily and readily than if you remain Dell anything. Also, if you plan to re-use the Dell supplied OS, that's tied to the Dell machine so that's an extra expense, you have to replace as well. While the initial cost is more, you'll have a more open PC to later upgrades, etc., to include pretty what that 1155 can handle and even that can be replaced as time goes on. well worth the effort and cost.

Mtrbds. come in std. sizes for much of the PC world. However, that's not always a given for OEM systems like from Dell and others. But, even here they(newer) conform as well to sizing factors. Just be aware that possibility not all mounting holes are used and/or be keen on any mounting posts present even if not used aren't going to short the mtrbd. backside.

I strongly suggest you take notice of what your Dell mtrbd. lay out, where this and that is. Then compare that to the available mtrbds. you plan to compare to. Next. review the specs.(check manual), often enough they mention they're in baby, micro or full ATX form factor. You do want some ATX form factor, don't settle for SX or Shuttle, etc., be keen on what you're getting. If not stated as baby, micro, etc. then the physical dimensions will be. the link below:
