i have a relatively new computer that died over the period of about a week. I think the power supply is ok, because all of the fans come, including the cpu fan, on when I try to power up, but nothing comes on the screen. The monitor isn't the problem, it works fine on my other computer, and I don't think it's the video card, because I replaced that and still no dice. I am thinking the motherboard is the problem, but I don't know how to confirm that exactly. Any help? Thanks.

You swap in a new motherboard. It's a shame more isn't told. If it was some p867t I could check the web (I'll use google) to see if anyone is noting issues with it.

That make and model numbers can give me something to research. For example if I had that and found that model popping up on the famous BAD CAPS forum then I'd give you something to visually inspect for and we would know if it is that.
But as it stands you could have a bum motherboard and CPU and the bum motherboard could have blown the CPU or vice versa. At the shop we swap both because consumers are a bit more litigious today. If you did them a favor and saved the CPU and if it blew the CPU later they may not accept that.
