Tips & Suggestions for a PC Build...

I'm building a PC and just need some suggestions or improvements from anybody out here...

I've settled on an Intel Core i5 3210M processor, an Asus P877 V-Deluxe motherboard, an AMD Radeon HD 6950 2GB graphic card for now. I'm thinking of having a Crucial M4 SSD, and a WD Caviar Black or Seagate Baraccuda as well. The case is a Dell Optiplex GX520.

And do I need to change the Dell's standard power supply or is it just fine?

Okay its been a while now, and my PC has been assembled... well mostly.

Case: Thermaltake Commander MS-I
CPU: Intel i7 3770
Motherboard: Asus P8Z77-V Deluxe
Power Supply: Fractal Design Newton R2 800W
Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda 2TB

The graphic card and the ssd shall be added later, much later when the prices drop a bit.

Since we don't have the specs on the PSU

I looked and found a few but all seem underpowered for that video card. The Watts was close but the Amperes looks too low.

Asus P877 V-Deluxe..............no such animal that I can find.
Asus P8Z77 V-Deluxe.......that shows some hits.
If it's the "Z" model then your cpu is a mis-match.

Dell Optiplex GX520
That's a mini tower with a 220w psu.........toss it.
Don't even think about fitting high power parts into that thing.

AMD Radeon HD 6950
That's a 200w card.
Think big case "cooling" and a whopper single rail psu.

Many years ago it was a whopper with cheese and a xtra large fries.

Today it's a small salad with low fat dressing and a glass of water......bummer.

Sorry about that. I couldn't resist that comment.

But seriously, I now start the day with vegetable juice and not much more. Because of this I can get that Whopper (no fries or shake) about once a week and still be inside my budget (waistline!)

Let's hope the OP gets a Whopper PSU!

The reason it was suggested that you abandon the Dell Optiplex case is that when you install a powerful graphics like the Radeon you mentioned,the system will draw a lot more power than the Dell power supply can deliver and will generate a lot more heat. So you require air intake fan(s) and exhaust fan(s).
