1. i'm putting together a pc, the dvd drive that i bought didnt come with any cable for some reason what kind of cable will i need, will any sata cable work?

2.the 2 built in fans in my case have large 4 pin connectors my motherboard has smaller connectors. will some kind of adapter work?

Since you have a SATA type DVD drive then you need such a cable. The cable does come in varying lengths, etc., but if you visit a local PC shop, it usually available to view. Online sources will offer the same item but very likely every flavor out there, just get what you think suits you best. Typical SATA cable comes in length, connector angle and possible color(red) along with metal tabs to better lock-in the connection. Steven explained this very well, I just offer that it shouldn't be a big concern as you view how best things get connected to resolve what to order.

FYI- Newegg usually provides pix of what you're getting. It appears no h/w bundle is showing the cable provided from your link of the Asus DVD drive. However, that isn't uncommon for OEM type sales, as the basics are very limited.

Any SATA cable should work for the DVD drive

They'll come in varying lengths. Buy one that's long enough to reach the MB connector but not so long that you need to find a place to hide the extra length. In other words, don't buy a 24" cable when a 15" will fit. I prefer the SATA cables with the metal click type locking mechanism attached. Old SATA cables were notorious for poor fit. As for your fans, it sounds as if you've got the "Molex" type connector. These can usually connect directly to the power supply. What we don't know is if your fans have 2 or 3 actual wires coming from the connector. 2 wire systems will just run the fan. 3 wire fans can allow for speed control. Some Antec power supplies I've seen have a dedicated connector for speed controlled fans. You'd need to tell how many wires the fans actually have going to them.
