I have a 1500 g seagate external hard drive. it will not power up. it is under warranty but i want my info. is there a way acheaper way for me to get the info then data recovery place . as that is to costly and and i have years of research on a family tree and old pics on here . I did back up and this was my back up. every time my old drives would start making noise i rebacked up this drive is not that old does not stay hook to my computer at all times. it just will not turn on. I really hope there is someone that can help me

Why? Because we have to open the case up to move the drive to some other case or cable to see if we can get at the drive contents.

You wrote this is BACKUP. If so, did you want to recant and call it STORAGE?

yes it was storage I just transferred files as to not keep my pc packed as i do us a lot of hard drive with pics and videos.

When you said "FIRE UP" I am assuming that it uses an A/C adapter and when you plug it into the power source nothing comes on/lights up. If that is the case I would suspect the adapter has gone South. If you are close to a techie shop/store or even a Radio Shack, take the unit in, with the adapter. It is a very easy test (to check the adapter) and if that is the issue there may well be a universal that would replace the bad adapter unit, it is definitely worth a shot.

It's widely available but here's one I carry with me.

Very often the drive is fine. This sidesteps the case and power supply.
