After my original desktop internal CD/DVD drive died, I bought a new internal drive (by LiteOn) and put it in. It didn't work and I couldn't find a driver for it online to try that. So finally today I got an external drive and plugged it in, and got an "Installation failed" message, and now it's sitting there dark, the computer can't see it, and auto-start CD's don't auto.
The desktop is a Dell Inspiron purchased in February 2010 running Windows 7 Home Premium on a Core i5 750 processor. The new CD drive is a Samsung SE-208 Slim Portable. Could there be something in the computer itself that stopped liking CD drives at all? Any possible clues? Is there an easy way I can find out?
