PC hardware forum: USB Hub?

I assume you stated that the new USB hub is attached by USB port using int. USB port power. If that's the case, then any attached "power hungry" device won't work, though it may seem so. the power required is just too low and/or not substantial for its needs. the easy fix is getting your hands on a "powered ext. USB hub" attached to an AC outlet. This readily is more capable and generally will do. As noted by you the front USB ports have given up and that's the similar result with power hungry devices. The USB port in general provides the most .005mA @5V. Even then if an demanding ext. USB device may on its own disown the current USB port in order to save itself from less than desirable stable power(all depends).

I exclude anything brand labeled because they in turn provide varied quality issues. What may work in one PC may not in another, go figure.

From your other reply(the next one) I can assume that you know what sort of Hub this is. So I just simply connected the "hub's" USB cord to my Cabinet's that USB Port which is able to read the external Hard Disk if attached directly to it.Moreover since there WASN'T any "OTHER" power cord supplied with the HUB, and on searching the internet I came to know a 10port hub is usually shipped with one, I thought maybe attaching a power cord without being sure might have rather disastrous effects.
It's just that I was using a hub for the first time and it didn't work as expected so I'm a bit confused.

Neither on the box of the Hub, nor on the iBallLappie's website they have mentioned about the Provisional Power Port. The moment I opened the box and saw that pin-port I was sure that it has something to do with power and my devices may nto work. So before using only, I thought to search the internet. But well, the results turned out as if I was a computer beginner! (which I'm not!) It showed nothing about any power thing apart from what I said, "a 10-port hub is shipped with a power cord". So as I said again, I wasn't thinking to risk attaching a power-cord straightaway.
Thanks a lot for your help. But I still wish to know one thing. What specification of the AC adapter should I use? I mean, the supply here is 220v-50Hz. Do you have any suggestions that what should be the specs or rating of the adapter I should look for? Something like 220vAC to 5mvDC converter? or since there are 4 ports, I should look for something a bit higher than that(what I think is, 5mv may be distributed in parallel without problem, but then current would be low, else if current would be fine, there would be voltage error if I use a 220vAC to 5mvDC). {Except for when I was making my first game in C++, I have never been so confused with anything relating to the computers! LOL!}

This is self-powered from the usb connection. How above describe this power cord and it's power port that you see. I can only see one view, so I can't see what the rest of the hub looks like. I am guessing there is no external power connection.

yes! It is a self powering hub, but tell me one thing why is it not able to read the External HDD, when it can read everything else. My External HDD is fine because when I plug it in that USB port of my cabinet to whihc I have attached the Hub, I have no problems. This further means neither my back USB port is damaged, nor my HDD. Since all the 4 portsof the hub are able to read Pendrives and Gamepad, that further implies that the hub is fine too!
Next, yes iBall's website doesn't mention about the power port, but well, IT IS PRESENT.
Now, all I need to know are the power specs of the adapter that I cn safely use with it, so that my HDDs run. Actually what Willy said above, I too had such presumptions. So I'm much satisfied with his answer. On the other hand, you are talking about the absence of the power-pin-port which is rather PRESTENT!

If it is externally powered then it should work with this hub. That's my take on this.

My External HDD is USB powered. I mean I don't have any adapters nor the hdd has any ports for any other power. So I guess yes it is USB powered

With usb powered; no 3.5" Hdd have worked for me. With 2.5" drive, some will work (Transcend) and some will not (Toshiba). So it is a good bet to have either the hub externally powered or the hdd. itself have externally powered.

I'm using 2.5" Seagate(500GB) and 2.5" Samsung. None works. Both are USB powered. I'm still looking for an adapter for my Hub! :/

You need to google away for an answer on that product. The mere fact that none was provided is a clue if this either offered to reduce cost in order to sell it cheaply or similar.

It has been my experience that the product will offer a clue as the adapter attached what is needed. It maybe a simple label or silk-screened on. What may more than likely this is a 6V @ .750mA or less. 1A is certainly going to power this and generally speaking it supplies upto 1A(or whatever is supplied), if it needs less it will with no harm to end device(s). 6V overall isn't going to harm any 5V device either. Many adapters will by default also be 115/230V so pretty much universal. What you can do is "backdoor engineer" but finding out what other products use that are "AC power" ext. USB hubs. If you can't find such an adapter that follows general AC application for your product then that product was too specialized or unique, move on or if you can return it.
