Creating realistic CGI animation on an average computer

i've been wondering if you could make some realistic CGI, like in the movies using and average computer. I know it takes a lot of hard work and training to make such realistic CGI like in films. if one is willing to learn and has the skills but is limited to hardware and computer power. I've been animating in Blender for about 2 months and still training. I have decided to move up and use Autodesk Maya and Mudbox i'm willing to take some classes for that too. Do you think I could make some realistic CGI on a computer with the following specifications without the computer getting crashed or lagging.
Processor : Intel Core i5-2410M Processor
2.3 GHz with Turbo Boost technology up to 2.90 GHz (3MB Cache)
Operating System : Windows 7 Ultimate
Memory : 4GB DDR3
Storage : 750 GB hard disk
Display : 15.6-inches HD Clear SuperView Led Backlit , 1366 X 768 pixels resolution
Graphics : Mobile Intel HM65 Express Chipset , nVIDIA N12P-LP 2GB (DDR3). It has a 2GB dedicated Graphics card.
Rendering would possibly cause some delays, but that is expected.
