cd and dvd drives replacements

Dell xps 600
cd-drive tsstcorp cd-rw ts-h292c
cd/dvd drive hl-dt-st dvd+rw gwa 4164b

Both drive on ide ribbon in cs jumper
The drives no longer correctly record burn't cd/dvd disc

Can I replace these units with one unit that I can burn cd's or dvd's

My hard drives or sata is it also possible to use sata optical drives in this unit ??

YES.

Buying a DVD R/W+ is probably your best bet and also be EIDE type in order to re-use the cable supplied. The new drive will support CD blanks for burning as well as DVD. Just review the specs of the product you plan to buy to have a clear understanding what's being supplied. enjoy

Sata optical drives are much readily available than eide
What I am looking at is a lite-on unit for sata cd/dvd

I have four connections that are sata..I use two for hard drives
Setup says they can be used for hard drives or cd drives

With the purchase of the cd/dvd and a sata cable can I make this combination work correctly.

Get SATA

That was not the question you asked or rather you wanted SATA only period. If you want SATA and have the ports to access, then do it. Since, the IDE will be left unconnected as it were since you plan to remove the IDE type drives as they don't work. Install new SATA DVD r/w+ drive and place on next open SATA port. Done...now shop for a new drive. I also suggest you get a DVD drive that includes some s/w bundle for a more complete install and/or kit regardless of what you already have to cover all aspects.
