I have an HP OfficeJet 6480 inkjet printer. I print in black only, as I cannot afford color cartridges. The printer is ~3 years old. I use HP 74 Black Ink Cartridge. My desktop is an HP a4310f Pavilion.
After installing a new cartridge and aligning, every time I turn on the printer I get the message that the cartridge needs realignment; then the message that realignment has failed, refer to manual. Sometimes this happens during a series of print jobs. Since this happens with newly installed cartridge, print heads may need cleaning, but manual refers only to cartridge cleaning (perhaps they are the same for cleaning).
I have just installed a new cartridge: 31 pages have consumed 1/4 to 1/5 of ink. Is this normal for this printer? The test page appeared normal to me: clear, crisp, even results.
I have had problems with the software accompanieng this printer in the past: 'Smart' Web Printing has never worked properly; HP tech support were unable to solve that problem.
I am concerned that ink loss (if indeed occurring) may be another HP software problem. I must solve this problem before wasting further ink.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
