No video signal at boot after upgrading monitor?

I've upgraded to a new 21-inch flat panel monitor with DVI input and now get no video signal from cold boot until Windows (XPSP3) starts. Previously, I had a 17 inch flat panel with analog input and always got the video card info, BIOS, etc. when booting up. Now the new monitor (Viewsonic VP2130b) displays a 'DVI-D no signal' message and goes dark until the XP splash screen. Interestingly, when I do a reboot, I do get the video card info, BIOS, etc. The video card is an Nvidia GeForce 6200 AGP 256mb and is connected to the monitor with a DVI cable. The screen resolution is set for 32-bit color with 1280x960 resolution. Apparently, something is set wrong, but I can't figure out what that is. Thanks for your suggestions.
