xbox360 controller wont detect on my pc.

Hi im having problems trying to make my 360 controller work on my pc.
I connected my 360 controller and it installed everything automatically,and a pop up appears in the taskbar saying chrage via and play is ready to be used etc.

So thats ok but in control panel under game controllers it wont show on the list.so obviously switchbalde pro wont recognize that the controller is plugged in.

Im using my original xbox360 controller wired only.

ive tried drivers etc but the 360 controller wont work for any games for windows nor does switchblade recognize tht its plugged in.

Am i missing something?

any help would be great thanks,Ive tried this on xp sp2 & xp sp3 and vista 64 all the same problems.My xbox360 controller is the original fro my xbox360.The guide light comes on thats about it.

I'm having the same problem.
- original controller connected to pc via 'charge and play' kit.
- automatically downloads drivers from the net.
- device manager shows certified 360 device installed correctly
- does not appear in the list of controlls under 'game controllers' function in control panel.

From all the threads and posts i've read in different places, I'm assuming that some games will still pick it up.
But I want it to be recognised in the controller list so that I can use it for a wider variety of games and other.
Eg... I want to use it for an old carttridge console emulator, which asks for a controller device to be selected.

Any help from anyone would be greatly appreciated.

you need to buy the pc ready version controller off of the microsoft website.they just figured that there needed to be another way to steel money from you
