Is AMD 939 compatible with AM2 or AM2+ ?

I recently suffered the loss of my motherboard and I am looking for a replacement. The problem is that nobody has a socket 939 motherboard. The processor is an AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ Toledo. Most current boards show that they are compatible with socket 939, but they take DDR2 ram. Will it work?

am2/am2+ is a different socket than 939

and thus incompatible. only socket am2/am2+ motherboards use ddr2.

Try the other way around.

When I look at a motherboard I usually find a "Compatible CPU List" by it's maker.

I see some 939 boards at http://www.geeks.com/products_sc.asp?cat=473
Now hit the maker's sites to get the CPU list.

the socket refers to teh amount of pins on the back, different sockets sometime use different methods to connect the cpu to the boards on top of teh number of pins. it is possible to run s939 in an am2 motherboard if you have a hammer and dont care if it works or not.
