power supply upgrade

I have a Dell Dimension 4500. It is running Windows XPSP2 HE. My power supply unit is only 250 watts. Can I install a more powerfull PSU, and can any one suggest an inexpensive unit ? Thanks

Unless, you get outrageous your Dell psu is pretty good stuff, even if 250W unit. However, you want a cheap psu, that isn't going to happen with Dell as anything out there is slightly more expensive than most generic psus. The problem, it has to "fit" into a Dell system case and be 100% compatible. Check out this supplier, surf abit: http://www.affordablesurplus.com/bestec-atx-1956d-power-supply.asp

However, as someone already posted, PCPower&cooling is a very good source. Of course, you can try Dell as well, but expect expensive and/or waht they offer is limited(maybe sold out).

Read this link if you plan to use a standard ATX supply on some vintage Dell's. Fast was to fry a mobo.
