How do I open the case of a Dell Dimension Desktop??

I just got a newer, faster computer and I want to use my old hard drive as an external slave to hold all my music. But, the sad thing is, I don't even know how to open the housing to get the hard drive out! I unscrewed the screw in the back and I'm pretty sure the housing slides back and then off, but I can get it to budge - any advice? I have the external case ready to go and this is driving me mad!! Thanks...

Opening the case on DELL DIMENSIONS

It may depend on which dimension model you have, but most of them open with a button that is on the top and on the bottom, usually it looks just decorative thing, but if you push the one on th ebottom and then the one on the top and then from the back of the tower try to spread the plastic sides apart like a ''V'' the front of the tower being the point on the V. Please make sure that the tower in UNPLUGGED when doing this. then you will see that the hardrive is screwed in and the ribbon will be attatched to the back of it, unplug the ribbon and make sure you have all the screws out and, there you have it.

TIS' THE SEASON OF STATIC BUILD UP!

Make sure you dischange any static buildup you have by touching something metal, and keep your arm in contact with the metal frame of the chasis at all times. (AFTER YOU UNPLUG THE POWER AND EVRYTHING) You also want to hold in the power switch for about 10 seconds after it is unplugged to make sure any capacitors are discarged on the board.

Try Dell's online support site

Did you go the the Dell online support site www.support.edll.com and then plug in your make and model? In general Dell has some of the best online support in the industry. There should be PDF or online copies of the manuals for the system that will include even such basics as how to open/remove the case.
