SBC YAHOO DSL SLOW CONNECTION!!!

I have just signed up for the $14.95 SBC Yahoo DSL plan, and once I got my modem, I started setting up, and got online in minutes. The problem is, it's so freaking slow!!! My average download rate is 30 kps, and the highest I ever got was 80 kps( I used a download accelerator) They said that the download speeds can go up to 1.5 mps, and all I get is 30 freaking kps. Is there a problem with my modem, or is it just them, cause this speed was the same ever since I got it.

The only issue is my download speed, which is average of 30 kps. When I use download accelerators like netants or DAP, my speed bumps up to 80 kps. SBC said it can go up to 1.5 mbs. Is there a way to bump up the speed, or is it just that I got ripped off by SBC? For all you people who uses SBC Yahoo DSL for $14.95 a month, please post your average download speeds, and tell me what's going on with my internet...

SBC yahoo has a speed test applaction that lets you send the results to SBC. Look for the problem link.
My download is around 670kbs on the avarage, I'm 14,600' from the central office.
Call SBC tech suport and have them check your line. They can tell you how far you are from the central offic.
A lot depends on how far from the central office you are, the farther you are the lower the speed. A friend of my lives 1 mile closer to the cental office than I do and he gets over 1.5mb download. John

his dsl is up to over 300kbs on the basic plan. That's with my PC's Gigabit ethernet, though. His ethernet lets him download at around 140kbs.

First, you probably don't have everything set up just right. Same package gives me up to 200 kps sometimes. You forget (or might not know) that download speed is going to vary, a LOT in some situation. Depends on time of day (even with constant speed DSL) because of server load, servers used, etc. I sometimes get speeds in the teens and it can't be changed. Some sites just can't afford fast servers. Trying at a different time does help.

You said that you have the same package as me, so you should have the same modem sent to you. SBC sent me a siemens speedstream 4100 modem. It's a very cheapish modem, small, black, and cheap. Anyways, did they send you the same model as well, cause my friend ordered the same package and he recieved a 2wire gateway modem. That's really weird.... Still, my internet speed is sluggish (I'm hitting 20 kps now, AAARRRGGHHHH!!!!!)

I started out with SBC 5 years ago and had fits with them for awhile. I was later upgraded to fiber oprtic; this got my speed frm around 300 to 12-1500. 4 months ago they upgraded me to DSL Pro and my typical speed is around 24-2500. Don't knock the Seimans modem; they are OK. Keep after SBC customer Service; they will get things straightened out. BTW, I am 17363' from their office, right at the limit.

I tested the DSL at my father's home on my PC...

at the site SBC directed me to and came up 2505 for download and over 400 for upload.

The SBC person was on the phone with me while I was doing the testing and said that for the basic plan the download speed would be a max of 2500 and the upload speed would max out at 350.

That 2505 is surfing speed not file downloading speed. Anytime a DSL plan is rated with high speed numbers like 1.5 MBs or 3MBs or whatever, it refers to surfing speed. A person can know their file download speed by paying attention to the box that pops up during a download.

On a 1.5MB basic DSL plan from SBC, the file download speed can vary in the best situation from around 60kbs to over 300kbs, depending on equipment.

Don't know about SBCs Pro plan but they say it's supposed to be doubled.

because when DSL becomes available here in the sticks, where I live, I'm going to opt in for the Pro plan.

600 to 700kbs file download speed sure sounds great.:)

It's been like a few weeks since I last posted my problem with the SBC yahoo DSL Download speed problem, and now, it's getting even worse.... I now have an average 15 kps download speed, which is utterly pathetic with DSL standards. I again have the 14.95 a month plan, and I called the company about the problem, but they just gave me a "trouble ticket" whatever that is. Anyways, no one ever came to fix the problem, and I've been paying them to get speeds of dial-up. Please, somebody help me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
