NOOK HD Tablets-Now with Google Play
I can see that this is a fairly common problem, but after an hour of searching the internet for a solution that will work for me, I must admit I'm stumped.
I have four USB ports in my toshiba laptop. I had two Xbox 360 Wired controllers plugged in and was playing with my brother, when his controller got cut off and we got the message: Power Surge on Hub Port. A USB device has exceeded the limits of his hub port.
This happened for the first time today, despite the fact we have used the same two controllers on several occasions before.
We noticed that it's the same two ports that cut out as well, the other two are fine.
So, I'm stumped. I on't know what to do. I even tried re-installing them, no change. It works for a couple of minutes, then dies.
Not sure if you need any more info/specs? I'm running Windows 7 64 bit.
Any help would be very much apprecated =)

When I see this I use those USB Y cables. It's been beat to death and I hope you understand that I've discussed it before. Some folk want yet another discussion or explaining why now. Sorry but I'll keep it short with how I resolve it.

I appreciate it has been discussed before but I have tried many solutions already suggested. Sometimes when you can describe the problem you actually have though you get different replies!

I'm an electronics engineer with embedded designs and more. If you want to replace the motehrboard to fix this, then go ahead. I use the cheap cable.

I'm not supplying any of the usual answers. I'm supplying the fix I'm using. If folk want to go down the registry and settings path, let them. It's all out there so all I can do is apologize for not going into support tar pits with others.

I suspect under a gaming setup and all, you did prolonged play and such. besides all the other factors involved, the actual demand of use from a hi-end device and on a constant output just stresses the USB port. If you plan to use the other remaining ports, they too will falter. USB ports are simple yet useful ports but can be abused and that's maybe happening, it couldn't take it any longer. I've found USB power path, burnt-up and/or popped off the mtrbd. and laptops are just too thin(lands) to maintain constant power output for long. You can of course try the other solutions but if you have a true h/w fault internal to the laptop, so s/w fix is going ti help.
