I'm going to answer a question, before asking for help. I started
a business many years ago with some friends. We used 98SE
back then. All of us gradually customized this system to automate
tasks, etc. I keep a copy of this unique version of 98SE at home on
a laptop. It's still very useful. All our office desktops are running
Windows 7.
Canon Pixma MP450 is the AIO (or MFP) used occasionally with this
laptop running 98SE. If ten days or more go by, and I haven't used
this AIO I run a few multi-color test prints to keep the ink tanks from
drying out.
I think the print head may be defective. The sheets come out completely
clean, with no smearing. The problem is with the fonts. They are usually
misaligned, slanted, or fractured. I tried the alignment procedure from
the maintenance screen and through the Canon software. It doesn't
help.
Stepping away from this problem for a moment, I have say something
completely insane! I posted about this relatively simple problem on
two very popular software and hardware forums, and a third forum
completely dedicated to printers. There were hundreds of views, with
no replies. I noticed many of the other posts about printers also had
a "0" under the reply column. There must be a reason for this, but it
does seem very strange.
