Dell monitor isn't at 1920x1080

i bought a Dell monitor(u2410) a couple of weeks ago,and can only get the resolution up to 1280x720,but if i put it to that everything is small and mis shaped,so i have to the next one down 1024x768,i can't seem to move the slider up to in between,and when i have photoshop open and i open a photo in raw,i can't see the buttons at the bottom to click on,i open up my Nvidia(GeForce GT 220)control panel and the recommended resolution is 1920x1080 but the native is set at 1024x768,is it my grapics card that needs updating?

Sorry but the details are too slim here.

Not only would I want the video card drivers up to date but I'd install Dell's monitor driver from Dell.

yes it should be 1920x1200 but i can't get it to that,
all the drivers are up to date,don't know what other information you require,i have connected it with a DVI cable to DVI 2 in the back of the monitor,would that be anything to do with it?

Are you using a standalone GT220 card? If so using DVI or HDMI should do the job. You didn't mention OS or computer specs. Assume you have done the usual display settings etc. Still need a little more information.

gt220 card

yes i am using a stand alone card,it's connected using a DVI cable,and my os is windows 7 63 bit,
i have tried to put the setting higher than 1024x768 but everything becomes small and distorted,i have tried to change them in both display settings and the Nvidia cointrol panel,

My kid has a HP d5000t with a gt220 and Windows 7 64 bit home premium (one more bit than yours!) and no trouble on a samsung hdtv connected with either vga or hdmi.

Your story is a little light but I can report this card with 1GB video ram does support this resolution.

By light I mean who installed this OS and how do you know the drivers are up to date? I find members trying Microsoft's driver update button still.

the computer is about 3 weeks old,and it was custom built by a specialist computer firm,and the driver i downloaded from the Nvidia site,thank you karen

Drivers again.

Go over the motherboard drivers, then the display drivers (not the video card drivers) and then if no-go use the CD that came with the video card for drivers.

That's no less than 3 drivers for 3 different parts of the PC.

everything is suppose to be smaller. If you want things to be bigger, then you change their size (text, icons, etc.).
