hp printer can't print CUSTOM SIZE paper?

hp can't print on CUSTOM SIZE paper.
Which procedure does all ye hp users normally use to setup ms-word to print CUSTOM SIZE paper on hp printers?
Which margins should i use in ms-word to setup CUSTOM SIZE paper -any paper size of my chioce below 8"x11" - for output to hp printer? Please NOT ms-word default paper sizes.Those work ok.
Anytime i try to use CUSTOM SIZE paper to print either envelopes or postcards sizes of my choice below 8x11", a flag pops saying "margins of section 1 set outside printable area of page!"
Excuse me, i'm not that stupid to setup negative margins or rediculous margins larger than size of paper i specified. "section 1" flag pops only when i select CUSTOM SIZE paper and no amount of margins 0.8" - 2" can stop it.
When i output the same setup to Epson, it works fine but only hp flags "section 1" error.
All ye hp users please help!
