Monitor flickers when it is turned on - problem

I am using a Samsung monitor with my Windows XP Professional computer. The monitor is about 4 years old. Typically, I turn the monitor off if I am not going to be using it for awhile. I had no problems with the monitor until last week. Now when I turn it on, the brightness is not what is should be (it is darker)and the screen flickers for a few seconds. After the flickering stops, the brightness of the screen returns to normal. Before last week, when I turned the monitor on, there was no flickering and the brightness was as it should be as soon as I turned on the monitor.
What could be causing this problem and how do I correct it, if it is possible to correct?

Outside of a cable, fuse or such there is nothing an owner can do with these things save take it to Samsung for repair.

HOWEVER cost to repair often exceeds replacement costs. And with all due respect, those that could fix such a thing would not ask (again, I mean you no disrespect here.)

These devices and products are made to last about 2 to 10 years so let's get our selves ready for a wave of people with dead gear.

Replace or repair option

I consider any monitor giving over 3yrs. of service a blessing. Since yours is 4yrs. old you got your money's worth, IMHO. As Robert stated, any repair cost is going to look bad when applied to new monitor cost. Afterall, most new monitors are offering great displays and if you have CRT type, then a LCD one will be appealing. If you want your old monitor to work again, there's only a repair service should do. High voltages are present and depending on your skill may(not) be up your alley, so consider a pro to do it. Your symptoms, appears due to wear&tear more than likely it can't scan as well or the HV is going out. Also, I find getting certain electronics a difficult task if you don't part take into ordering parts regularly as sources vary if you plan to repair.

2232 samsung monitor

I purchased mine from Best Buy 11 months ago.It flickers and goes dead light a light bulb.Have to click it off and back on repeatedly to get a good start. Samsung surely knows they are selling in bad faith.I'm sure their attitude is its not conducent to their bottom line to make it right with the American consumer.

At 11 months, that's in warranty.

It would be a shame you didn't check if you can get 3 more months warranty at samsung.com plus a free repair.

Your post does not mention you registering the product or calling 1800SAMSUNG.
