Peripherals forum: Good printer for Graphic Design and regular use

I would suggest an Epson CX 4800. It gives you good quality print on photos and regular printing needs. The bonus, I feel, is that it has seperate color cartridges which allow one to replace only the spent cartridge rather than purchasing a combined color cartridge. I have found that the black cartridge is replaced more often than the other colors. Finally the price is right.

Silvertop suggested the CX 4800, it would do the same job, but that's an outdated model, and you may not be able to get the ink cartridges for too much longer, I suggested the CX 5800, but there is also more updated models, the CX 6000, CX6300, CX6400, CX6600, any one of those would do the job for you. My son has the CX6000, and man it does a great job, again speaking from eperience, Epson cannot be beat. Good Luck.

Since you using this for graphical design, the colors matter as do the fine details. If you look at the Canon line of Pixma printers, they are about the best that is around. The Epson R series is also very good.

It just depends if you want a wide-format or not. Canon just came out with the Pixma Pro line of wide format around the $500 price point. As for the Epson R series if you want wide format, the R1400 is a new model that just came out around the same price point.

Epson does have some printheads that can cause a problem. But either way you can't lose.
