Wireless LAN Router Qs: Setting a Password?

I've been OK without wifi at home, but my wife just got an iPod Touch so I think it's finally time to get a wireless router. I'm in Japan and I'm having trouble finding answers to my questions over here.
First, it seems I will simply connect the wireless router into one of the unused plugs on my current wired router and have the two side-by-side. Right? Then, when I go to create a password to protect my wifi network, is that PW going to be only on the new, wireless router? Or should there be a PW on both routers? (If so, should both PWs be the same?)
Right now, with only the old, wired router, if I run IPCONFIG, my default gateway is 192.168.0.1. And when I enter that as an internet address, I get a "set password" screen (which is currently without a password). Is it a good idea to set a PW now, or will that screw up adding the wireless router later?
After I buy a wireless router and have it connected, will IPCONFIG show both the old, wired (192.168.0.1) router and the wireless (with a different gateway number) LAN router? If not, what will it show?
I'd appreciate any helpful advice so I do this right.
