Problem printing with HP 8600 (wireless) on dual router wifi

I have a FiOS (Actiontec) router in the basement of my house, it's there because I have the FiOS connection coming in from there and switch to split the wired connection. I had a great idea of using a 2nd wifi router in the 2nd floor of my house due to low signal when I'm on the iPad. The DHCP assignment is done by the FiOS router, the 2nd router, with the same SSID name, is connected via cat 6 and doesn't do any routing. As far as signal, this worked great. The problem I had was the wireless printers weren't printing sometimes. I thought maybe it was because it was connected to 1 network vs. the other and wasn't "finding the printer". To temporarily fix this, I changed SSID's so that they're unique. When I want to print, I'd mave to make sure I'm connected to the 2nd floor router (where the printers are located). Is there a way to use the same SSID and have to the printers be able to print? It would be nice if I can go from one section of the house to the other and have the iPad (or other device) pick up the network automatically.
